Journey to the Heart of the Road with Transports Porqueres

At Transports Porqueres, we specialize in the road transport of bulk and/or palletized goods for the national territory and within the EU. Land transportation has been a fundamental piece in the development of our modern societies. Behind this sector there are astonishing stories and data. That is why we would like to share some of these curiosities with you:

  • Ancient origins: The first commercial goods routes were established in Antiquity, with the famous Silk Road as one of the most outstanding examples. Although they looked nothing like modern trucks, camel caravans were the preferred goods transportation method back then.

  • Did you know? In Europe, the country with the most kilometers of roads is Spain, making it a key hub for goods transport on the continent.

  • Distance record: Some truck drivers have traveled distances comparable to a trip to the moon. That's over 384,400 km in their career!

  • The world's largest truck: The BelAZ 75710, originally from Belarus, is considered the largest truck in the world. Designed for mining, it can carry up to 450 tons.

  • Beyond diesel: Although diesel is the most common fuel associated with trucks, recent innovations have led to the development of electric trucks and those powered by hydrogen, looking for cleaner and more sustainable alternatives.

  • The art of "trucking": In some countries, like Pakistan, it is traditional to decorate and personalize trucks with detailed artistic designs, turning each vehicle into a rolling work of art.

  • Cradle of inventions: Refrigeration in transport, essential for many products, was an innovation that emerged in the 1930s. Thanks to this, fresh products can be transported over long distances without spoiling.

  • Its own language: Truckers have developed slang and codes to communicate among themselves, especially in times when CB radios were essential on the road. For example, 10-4, a code that means a message has been received and understood; where “10” (=message received and understood) and “4” (= affirmative). Another interesting example would be 10-20, which is used to explain the driver's current position or location.

  • The longest road: The Pan-American Highway is considered the longest road in the world, stretching from Alaska in the north to Ushuaia in Argentina in the south. A trip on this road would span over 19,000 km!

  • Synonymous with independence: In popular culture, especially in countries like the United States, the truck driver has been seen as a symbol of freedom and independence, with films, songs, and books dedicated to this profession.

At Transports Porqueres, we value and respect the rich history and curiosities of road goods transport. Every trip, every load, and every truck driver has a story to tell, and we are proud to be a part of this fascinating world. Keep on rolling and discover the secrets the roads have to offer!
